The Great Grape Ape Show

character guide

The Great Grape Ape Show

The tender, passionate relationship between a 40-foot purple ape and his wisecracking canine pal. His catchphrase is repeating his name twice ("Grape Ape, Grape Ape") after anything anyone says!

1975–1976 - segment on The New Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show
1976–1977 - The Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape/Mumbly Show
1977 - Grape Ape became its own half-hour show on Sunday Mornings

Beegle Beagle and Grape Ape lived on as cast members of Scooby’s All-Star Laff-A-Lympics.

Hanna-Barbera, 1975

Theme tune lyrics!

(Grape Ape!) Over 40 feet high!
(Grape Ape!) Just a little bit shy!
(Grape Ape!) What a super-strong guy!
(Yup, that's me!) The Great Grape Ape!
(Grape Ape!) If he comes to your town,
(Grape Ape!) He will really put down
(Grape Ape!) Any bad guy around!
The Great Grape Ape!

What a sight to see him jogging, block after block!
Things begin to shake and quake and rattle and rock!
The big, big, big, big gorilililililililila!

(Grape Ape!) I do not reccommend
(Achoooo!) He is one to offend . . .
(Grape Ape!) So, be sure he's your friend!
(Better be sure!) The Great Grape Ape! (Yup, that's me!)

Did you know... Grape Ape's voice was done by Bob Holt (Hoot Kloot, Ming the Merciless in the 1982 Flash Gordon animated feature). Beegle Beagle was Marty Ingels, better known for face than voice acting, who did manage to squeeze such cartoon roles as Autocat (from Cattanooga Cats) and Pac-Man into his career.
